If printing for outdoor use ASA is recommended and holds up very well to the elements, but you it may work fine with ABS or PETG as well. This does not typically need supports and the rod can be printed standing straight up. A brim for the rod may be needed depending on how long/high you decide to print it. The rod can made scaled as long as needed by scaling only the Z axis.
