As one of the largest known prehistoric dogs, it belonged to the subfamily Borophaginae, often called “bone-crushing dogs” due to their powerful jaws and strong teeth. E. haydeni could grow up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) long and weigh over 170 kg (375 lbs), making it larger than modern wolves.
